Today we were joined by 50 of our Clients to listen to representatives from Pinsent Masons: Aaron Goonrey, Manfred Schmidand and Emma Lutwyche. They kindly gave their time to take us through a review of the recent changes in employment law in Australia, as well as some insights to changes internationally.
Aaron highlighted the seven legislative priorities outlined by Barbara Pocock before he went on to discuss the recent legislative amendments, highlighting in particular the changes around fixed term contracts. Important changes are taking place in regards to fixed-term contracts after the 6th December which all employers will need to be aware of.
Emma took us through some thought-provoking case studies which have impacted labour laws. Amongst others the recent case of Gautam Parimoo v Lake Resources N.L. [2023] FWC 2543 stirred up lots of discussion around the room about what it means to be an “Australia-based” employee.
