Emerging Market Team Hosts ‘Elevate Your HR Career’ Event
Last week, the Emerging Market team proudly hosted the ‘Elevate Your HR Career’ event, bringing together aspiring HR professionals eager to advance their careers. We were thrilled to have Michelle Rushton, Co-Founder and Director at People of Influence, lead the conversation. Michelle’s energy made the event both engaging and lively, helping our panellists share their insights and experiences in a meaningful way.
The panel featured Kate Wilkinson (Chief People Officer, Elmo Software), Ben Cividin (People Partner, Charter Hall), and Amanda Bollans (Chief People Officer, Nova Entertainment) who shared their career journeys and unique perspectives on thriving in HR today, the future of AI in HR, and the guidance they wish they had received early in their careers.
Key Takeaways from the Panel:
- Kate Wilkinson emphasised the importance of trusting your instincts. “Don’t doubt your intuition—it’s a muscle that needs to be built and trusted,” she advised.
- Amanda Bollans highlighted the value of networking and mentorship. “Be intentional about building your network. I’ve always had two mentors and a coach, which has been crucial for my growth and development. A strong network helps you bounce back, and most people love being asked for advice. Don’t be afraid to be awkward—ask the questions!”
- Ben Cividin encouraged the audience to truly understand the business. “Applying your HR knowledge to business fundamentals allows you to bring value to any industry,” he shared.
The panellists also spoke about the necessity of stepping outside one’s comfort zone. Whether it’s moving across industries, taking on tasks beyond your job description, or volunteering for opportunities that stretch your capabilities, pushing boundaries can offer invaluable learning experiences.
A key highlight of the evening was their discussion on the evolving role of AI in HR and the importance of adaptability in the industry. Ben noted how AI is transforming the industry by enhancing efficiency and significantly reducing bias in hiring and decision-making. While AI can streamline processes such as first-level queries or skills-based hiring, Kate stressed that it won’t replace the human element. “AI will make HR more efficient by giving us time to focus on strategic tasks, but a humanistic approach will always be essential.”
The evening closed with a shared sense of excitement for the future of HR. The key message? Be proactive, embrace new challenges, and never stop learning. Whether through technology, networking, or bold career moves, the future of HR is in the hands of those willing to innovate and grow.
Thank you to Elmo Software for hosting the event, to our guests for attending, and to Kate, Ben, and Amanda for sharing their valuable insights. A special thank you to Michelle Rushton for facilitating such an engaging and dynamic conversation.
